CALL FOR FILM SUBMISSIONS

Pre-Conference Short Film Festival Friday, July 25, 2025

Are you ready to showcase your creative scholarship?

The Alabama Communication Association invites submissions for our Pre-Conference Short Film Festival, to be hosted by the Department of Communication at the University of Alabama Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, July 25, 2025.

We welcome original short films by faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students from Alabama and the surrounding area. Individuals may submit a variety of film projects from Communication centered disciplines such as communication studies, journalism, media studies, advertising, public relations, mass communication, etc. Films that feature disciplines intersecting with Communication (such as sociology, marketing, English, etc.) are also welcome.

Submission deadline: May 1, 2025 (midnight CDT)

This pre-conference is committed to focusing on the following submission types:

Short Narrative (Fiction): Original films that tell a fictional story with a running time of no more than 25 minutes. Films exceeding this time limit will not be reviewed.

Documentary Short (Non-Fiction): Original films that intend to document reality, primarily for instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record with a running time of no more than 25 minutes. Films exceeding this time limit will not be reviewed.

Experimental Short (Non-Narrative): Original films, also known as avant-garde, that challenge traditional cinematic conventions and ways of communicating ideas with a running time of no more than 25 minutes. Films exceeding this time limit will not be reviewed

Animation Short: Original films that use a variety of techniques, such as hand-drawn, stop-motion, or computer-generated imagery with a running time of no more than 25 minutes. Films exceeding this time limit will not be reviewed

We will recognize the top undergraduate and graduate film projects.

Submission Guidelines: Identify whether the film is produced by faculty, undergraduate, or graduate student(s) as well as provide the title, director name(s), and complete contact information in the submission form and upload a link or video file.

Student submissions should be fully student produced. Those with faculty co-producers should be submitted in the faculty category.
